The beginning of this story was written one year after my son, Andrew, died and all that time I had this driving desire to sit down and write about how we as a family have dealt with the shock, heartbreak, our grief, and the everyday struggle to go on with life as a family. I know others have written books about the death of their child and how they have coped, but it seemed to me that it was years later that their story was told.
I begin now to write this book because I felt it was important for those of you who are newly bereaved, like myself and my family, to hear from someone who is going through the same things you are going through right now, and for whom the chapter does not end.
My son’s death was sudden and accidental, so we do not share any of the long-suffering hours that families who had a child die due to an illness had to experience. But, no matter what the cause, time of day,

NOT MY ANDREW was a gift to me. I had no idea how this memoir would take hold of my heart. The Milne’s – every one of them, are a “gift” to me. I grew up with them. I played golf with Andrew. We’ve all experienced death in some way. This is a touching reminder that life’s journey has its special way of teaching us lessons. Some we don’t want.
Bobbi and Tracy, to you both, a huge thank you for sharing your story, your journey and your love for Andrew and one another. The world needs more people like you.
NOT MY ANDREW is a quick, honest, heartfelt share from a Mom who has been through a moment you’re never to experience. It’s a must read.

Not My Andrew by Bobbi Schlager Milne is a deeply personal and heart-wrenching memoir that explores the tragic loss of her son Andrew. Written with raw honesty and profound emotion, Milne courageously shares her journey through grief, guilt, and the search for understanding, offering readers an intimate glimpse into the devastating impact of losing a loved one to a tragic accident.
The strength of this memoir lies in Milne’s ability to articulate the complexities of her emotions while shedding light on the challenges of navigating life after such a profound loss. Her reflections on Andrew’s life, his struggles, and the moments of joy they shared bring a sense of humanity and warmth to the story, making the loss all the more poignant.
Milne also delves into broader societal issues, such as the stigma surrounding mental health and the need for greater awareness and resources to prevent similar tragedies. Her vulnerability in addressing these topics is both courageous and inspiring, as she transforms her pain into a mission to help others.
Ultimately, Not My Andrew is a moving tribute to a beloved son and a powerful reminder of the importance of compassion, connection, and mental health advocacy. It is a must-read for anyone touched by loss or seeking to understand its far-reaching effects.
